HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR DIAMONDS’

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR DIAMONDS?

Most people can pick out a diamond from an assortment of gems. But when it comes to having a deeper understanding of what makes one diamond worth more than another (knowing which kind of cut it is, the color, the carat size, and the clarity), that’s where it gets a little cloudy. To help you keep your 4Cs straight, as well as test how deep your diamond-related knowledge goes, read through the following questions and see how many you can answer correctly.

1– A diamond without ______ is the rarest.

[champagne] [color]

[concave] [chunks]

Correct answer: Color. Diamonds can occur in many hues, ranging from colorless to light yellow or light brown. Colorless diamonds are the rarest. Stop by one of our stores and check out our colorful selection of wedding rings and engagement rings.

2– ______ has the greatest effect on a diamond’s beauty.

[Lighting] [Coating]

[Cut] [Origin]

Correct answer: Cut. To determine the quality of the cut, a diamond grader will evaluate the skill of the cutter in fashioning the diamond. The more precise it is, the more beautiful it appears to the eye. One of our in-store experts can go into further detail and explain the differences in styles of cuts.

3– Neil ______ has written some of the most popular karaoke songs of all time.

[Young] [Patrick Harris]

[Armstrong] [Diamond]

Correct answer: Diamond. His sing-along-friendly hit, Sweet, Caroline, has graced many bars, road trips, and basement parties since it was written.

4– Internal characteristics or external blemishes are known to affect the ______ of the diamond.

[durability] [weight]

[clarity] [self-esteem]

Correct answer: Clarity. This is the state of being clear or transparent. It represents the presence or absence of internal characteristics or blemishes. The clarity of a diamond is graded on the relative visibility of any inclusions and their impact on the overall visual appearance. Since we hand-pick our diamonds for our engagement rings, we only select the best.

5– Diamonds are for ______.

[special occasions] [significant others]

[skiing] [ever]

Correct answer: All of the above. A diamond is luxurious and represents both love and respect. It’s the perfect gift for the person with whom you want to spend the rest of your life with. And once you’ve given the gift, you have more reason to hit the slopes together. Visit your nearest Morgan Jewelers store, and any of our sales experts will help you find the right engagement ring.

6– Diamonds are a ______ best friend.

[boy’s] [spouse’s]

[girl’s] [lover’s]

Correct answer: Again, all of the above. While diamonds are widely associated with engagements or weddings, there are several other occasions where they’re a great gift. Birthdays (especially “milestone” birthdays such as 21, 30, 40, etc.), birth of a child (or sometimes called “push gifts” for mothers who go through so much during the delivery of the child), and graduations (high school, college, or even graduate school).

7– The ______ is the diamond’s physical weight.

[perimeter] [carat]

[midriff] girth]

Correct answer: Carat. This is the unit of measurement for the physical weight of diamonds. One carat is equal to 1/5 gram. The carat weight is the most objective of the diamond’s 4Cs. And all you need to determine this weight is a precisely balanced scale. As a general rule, the larger the carat weight, the more valuable the diamond. But keep in mind: the increase in value is not proportionate to the size increase, as there are other aspects (as mentioned above) that factor into the overall value of the diamond.

So now that you’re completely up to speed on the 4Cs (and other very important diamond-related trivia), it’s time to put that knowledge to use. Are you currently in a relationship? Looking for the perfect anniversary gift? Or simply wanting to get a gift that will keep you out of the doghouse for the foreseeable future? Then come see us at one of our stores.
